5th October Amsterdam to Lieden
** it was a terrible day yesterday when I got my first cold in more than 2 years. it certainly hit me hard. I found a chemist for my sore throat & dosed myself up with Panadol, to the degree that I can, and spent the day in bed. As a friend said, it can be stressful being sick away from familiar surroundings.
** I booked my train to Lieden for 8:34 and got up early (6:30) for the 9 minute walk to Amsterdam Crntral arriving at 7:20. Went to the information, that was actually good this time and they informed me that in The Netherlands once you have booked a ticket you can take any train to that destination. So I am on the 7:50 to Lieden which is leaving as I am writing . So, goodbye to the Port of Amsterdam.
** I have just passed through the town of Haarlem. This is the original town not the new world version. If you are Euro-centric in their historical knowledge you would know that these cities carry the weight of the centuries on them, much like most of if not all of the cities I have visited. Both Haalem & The Haig gets their first mention in the early 13th century.
