25th September London

** Lovely but slightly chilly midday in merry London heading towards the end of September. Based on how cool it was last night down by the river watching the floatella cruise by, there was a definite chill in the air as well.

** Enjoying a black Americano with my sister before we hit the local Marks & Sparks. Some last things to purchase for tonight's New Year (Rosh HaShanah) soiree. Looking forward to tomorrow as my Jessie is arriving at the flat for a few days before they return to Perth to look after Toffee the mutt while it's Mel's turn to travel to Europe this time.

** We just passed an Amazon store ( and a Tesco across the road running a similar system) where once you are registered you go into the store, take what you want and just walk out. No cash registers, no check out chicks or guys, just food. They name this system, "Just walk out" technology.

I queried the security chap at the door who ensures you scan in first, and he explained how the system works. There are literally hundreds of cameras on the ceiling that follow everyone around, and each shelf has weight sensors, so that if an item is picked up, the weight reduction is registered and the cameras confirm that you have taken which specific item. Click here to get a slightly more advanced and clearer explanation. None of the technology is actually new. Rather it is how the old technology has been brought together in a novel manner to create a totally new way of looking at things.

A walk around the streets between the flat and the Strand. Really interesting architecture.
